An attempted robbery onboard a CTA train Friday afternoon ended with the suspect being shot by the victim, police said.
Sky 5 was over the scene after the shooting took place at around 4:43 p.m. near the Laramie Green Line Station, in the area of West Lake Street and North Laramie Avenue. According to police, a 25-year-old man was on the train when another man, 33 years old, approached and tried to rob him.
The suspect was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital in fair condition.
One rider, who takes the train every single day, said he’s thankful he wasn’t caught in the shooting.
“I would have gotten on the train,” said CTA passenger Xavier Hartfield. “My life could possibly be in danger.”
Green Line service was halted at around 5:07 p.m. between the Harlem terminal and Ashland and Lake as a result, but had resumed with residual delays by 5:42 p.m.
“I’m not exactly comfortable with taking public transportation,” said Hartfield. “But at the end of the day, it’s something that people have to do and the fact that somebody thinks its okay to shoot a gun on the train with cars full of people is just ridiculous to me.”
As of Friday evening, charges were pending against the offender. The victim wasn’t injured in the incident, police stated.
