Monkeys gathering around a bonfire in Aichi zoo winter solstice custom

Monkeys at a zoo in Aichi Prefecture, valuable Japan, are gathering round a bonfire to warm up within the winter cold.

The Japan Monkey Centre in Inuyama City showcases the event yearly. The custom began just about 60 years ago since 1959 while zookeepers made a bonfire for themselves, and the monkeys who’re on a regular basis terrified of fire moved towards revel in its warmth.

On Tuesday, the day prior to Wintry Weather Solstice, participants of the media were invited to observe the monkeys collecting around the fire to heat their stomachs and backs and to devour roasted candy potatoes.
