A 35-year-old man was convicted this week of murder, but acquitted of other charges in the slaying of a woman at a North Long Beach motel six years ago, authorities said.
Long Beach Superior Court jurors needed less than a day Wednesday, Aug. 23, before finding Terry Moore guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Lanette Washington at the Luxury Inn on April 21, 2017, according to court records and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The jury found Moore not guilty of pandering, the DA’s office said.
Moore was scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 19.
Family members said Washington, of Long Beach, was the mother of six children. She was found on the ground of a third-floor room at the motel with multiple gunshot wounds just before 10 a.m., according to police and a coroner’s report.
Washington died at a hospital, police said.
The hotel sits along Long Beach Boulevard just north of the 710 Freeway.
Moore fled, prompting Long Beach police to send a SWAT team into a nearby North Long Beach neighborhood for hours, but the suspect was not there. Moore was identified and arrested more than a month later in Lancaster.
Devonte James, at the time of the shooting, said he heard gunshots and saw a naked woman run past him screaming that somebody had been shot. James, who had been getting coffee, said he went up to the third floor and found Washington bloodied in a room.
The relationship, if any, between Moore and Washington, or a possible motive for the shooting were not disclosed by police.
