SANTA CLARA — Decked out in full pads, the 49ers practiced Monday with nearly a full roster ahead of Tuesday’s cuts. Here are some of the observations ahead of interviews with defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans and select players:
JIMMY G WATCH
Jimmy Garoppolo was not throwing on the side field, as was the case Sunday. Perhaps that indicates his 49ers tenure is entering its final hours.
The 49ers must reduce their roster to 53 players by 1 p.m. Tuesday. Garoppolo has remained on the roster mainly in case a team needed a plug-in starter in case of injury, but the preseason ended Sunday without a team in such need, unless the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets radically change their contingency plans.
Garoppolo can be carried on the roster before his $24 million salary becomes guaranteed Sept. 10, although he’d earn his Week 1 paycheck if on the roster Sept. 7, according to CBS Sports’ analyst Joel Corry. The official NFL trade deadline during the season is Nov. 1, by the way.
The 49ers have “not made any more progress” in a potential trade of Garoppolo, according to veteran NFL reporter Jordan Schultz.
As of this morning, the #49ers had not made any more progress on a Jimmy Garappolo trade, sources say. San Francisco would clear $25.5M in cap space if he’s released by tomorrow’s 4pm ET deadline. I’m also told John Lynch prefers not to face Jimmy G with the #Seahawks Week 2.

McGLINCHEY, HEALTH UPDATES
Right tackle Mike McGlinchey practiced for the first time since irritating his right knee in the Aug. 12 preseason opener. After that issued flared up, coach Kyle Shanahan said McGlinchey planned to have platelet-rich plasma injection, a procedure he also endured in 2019.
Left tackle Trent Williams did not attend practice for a second consecutive day to what the team has termed as an illness.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel ran on the side — and he did so quite quickly backward — while conditioning from a knee contusion.
Starting cornerbacks Charvarius Ward and Emmanuel Moseley practiced together for a second straight day; they were out most of camp with groin and hamstring injuries, respectively.
The 49ers did not announce any transactions prior to Monday’s practice. Center Dohnovan West and cornerback Ken Crawley were not seen, however.
