Chicago police are trying to find an 8-year-old boy who was inside a car Friday afternoon when an unknown individual kidnapped him and stole the vehicle, authorities said.
The boy was inside a white Kia at approximately 4:53 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Ellis, which is in the city’s East Chatham neighborhood, when an unknown offender broke into the vehicle and then took off.
Community activist Andrew Holmes told NBC 5 police last tracked the vehicle to the area of Stony Island Avenue and 95th Street. As of late Friday, police were working with state officials to issue a statewide Amber Alert in hope of locating the young boy.
The incident has been classified by police as a kidnapping and vehicle theft.
Additional information, including a description of the child, wasn’t immediately available.
