OAKLAND — Investigations were underway early Tuesday morning after a body was found near the scene of a fire on the side of westbound Interstate 980 in Oakland, according to authorities.
A spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol said officers were called to a fire near the 17th Street off-ramp on I-980 at around 1:30 a.m. The fire was quickly extinguished with the help of the Oakland Fire Department.
A body was located in the surrounding area, according to the CHP. As of Tuesday morning, authorities could not confirm a cause of death or whether the body exhibited any signs of trauma related to the fire or otherwise.
There were early morning freeway closures Tuesday relating to the fire and subsequent investigation, but the closures were lifted according to the CHP. No other details were given about the incident.
